A few thoughts on iOS 10 and macOS Sierra

typography

Yan said typography on iOS 10 seems designed by some interns in American Apparel. I feel the same way. Probably using extra-bold fonts on a small-size screen is Apple's subtle way of suggesting customers to buy a new model? After all, Apple music UI looks much better on my MacBook. But still, it's not a good sign for a company who used to a good taste of typography.

Memories

I like Memories in the new photo app. The montage they've generated is fairly accurate. And the cool part is that machine learning inference runs on my local machine instead of cloud. It definitely shows Apple's right attitude toward user.

Continuity

Apple pay, Apple watch unlock for mac, cloud clippboard are all under Apple's continuity direction. But for a iPhone and mac-only user like me, it is not that helpful. I understand that laziness pushes technology forward, and yes, Apple as a marketing-oriented company needs these stuff. But I still think these features are just better than nothing. When you find your CPU utilisation increases dramatically, you just cannot help but thinking they are not elastic...

Siri
Same goes to Siri. Integration with Siri on iPhone and mac is a major update for the new two OSs. They even make that controversial AirPod to support Siri integration. But it is actually contradicted to a power user's workflow. I disable it on my devices on day one.

Software compatibility
So far the only incompatible software is Mou. I encounter a few minor bugs in Safari though. I tried Typora and immediately liked it. But it is not compatible either. Now I'm using Erato's free trial mode. I hope Typora can update soon.

I think the trending is that they are adding more and more fancy but useless features into a robust OS, which requires better CPU and better performance. Probably I should not upgrade until I have the latest model...
